Christmas is a time for festive decorations, and what better way to celebrate than with a unique, cat-themed Christmas tree? Inspired by the viral sensation of a Christmas tree made entirely of black cats, this project takes the crazy cat lady spirit to a whole new level. While the original inspiration featured sleek black felines, let’s explore how you can create a stunning and equally whimsical tree, perhaps even incorporating the charm of Orange And Black Cats.
It all started as Thanksgiving approached. The stores were already overflowing with Christmas cheer, prompting thoughts of holiday decorating. Should I stick to the usual ornaments, or venture into something different, maybe some trendy wall decals? Fate, or perhaps my deep-seated cat obsession, had other plans.
For those who know me, the “Crazy Cat Lady” title is proudly embraced. Our home is a haven for five rescued cats, each one a beautiful black panther. So, when the internet meme of a Christmas tree formed by a multitude of black cats began circulating, it resonated deeply.
This image, a clever Photoshop creation, is undeniably awesome. Being the resident “crazy black cat lady,” it was shared with me countless times. After the third share, a thought sparked: was the universe sending a message? Did I need a crazy cat lady Christmas tree, a feline tribute in my living room? Could this be the “something new” I was searching for?
The idea took root. Could I craft this vision using felt? Absolutely! My crafting brain latched on, refusing to let go. And so, over Thanksgiving weekend, the mission began: creating felt cats to adorn a Christmas tree. Thirty-six felt black cats later, the Crazy Cat Lady Christmas Tree was born!
The final result differed from the viral image, naturally. That picture was a digital masterpiece of repetition. Reality imposed limits – the number of cats achievable before true insanity (36 was pushing it!), and the capacity of my small tree’s branches.

Yet, the effect is enchanting. Dozens of kitty faces peering out from the tree bring a smile every time I pass by. They were surprisingly quick to make individually. However, multiplying that by 36 meant a significant crafting commitment, regardless of the simple pattern and construction. Each cat involved just one seam and a generous amount of hot glue.
And the tree topper? Naturally, another cat! A touch of chalk halo on the chalkboard behind ensures he stands out against the background. For those who prefer a warmer palette, imagine a topper featuring an orange and black cat, perhaps a calico or tortoiseshell design, to add a splash of color.

Here are a few more glimpses of the crazy cat lady tree, beautifully illuminated. Consider using warm white lights to complement black cats for a cozy feel, or perhaps colored lights to enhance orange and black cat variations if you choose to incorporate them.

Beneath the tree, a classic black and white tree skirt completes the look. Serendipitously, all the necessary fabric was already in my crafting stash! What a stroke of luck! For an orange and black cat themed tree, a burlap or warm-toned skirt could be a fantastic alternative.

While black cats offer a timelessly chic aesthetic, don’t limit yourself! Imagine a tree adorned with a mix of cat colors – perhaps playful ginger cats, sophisticated Siamese, or striking orange and black cats to represent calico or tortoiseshell breeds. And if a full tree of 36 cats seems daunting, even a single felt cat makes an adorable mantel decoration.
If you create cat softies using this pattern, please share your creations! It would be wonderful to see these felt felines spreading joy around the world.
