For enthusiasts of Ragdoll cats seeking a unique twist on the traditional color palette, the brown Ragdoll, often referred to as cinnamon, presents an enchanting option. At Starliterags, we are passionate about developing this captivating color variation within the beloved Ragdoll breed. After nearly four years of dedicated work, our cinnamon breeding program is beginning to flourish, revealing stunning kittens with warm, brown hues and exceptional Ragdoll traits.
Our journey into brown Ragdolls began with foundation cats carefully selected for their lineage and desirable characteristics. Meet Max, our foundation stud, a magnificent cinnamon bicolor non-traditional Ragdoll. Registered with TICA, Max embodies exceptional breed type, boasts a beautiful, soft coat, and possesses the gentle, affectionate personality Ragdolls are known for. Genetically tested and clear of HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), Max provides a solid cornerstone for our cinnamon program.
Complementing Max is Minnie, our foundation queen and the heart of our cinnamon line. Minnie is a charming cinnamon mink classic tabby Ragdoll. Her affectionate nature, coupled with an incredibly soft coat and playful spirit, makes her an ideal Ragdoll. Minnie’s registered Ragdoll lineage and HCM negative health status further solidify her importance in our breeding program. Her endearing habit of retrieving toys, sometimes endlessly, adds to her delightful personality.
The union of Max and Minnie has brought forth exceptional litters. Their first litter yielded four stunning kittens, showcasing the diversity of cinnamon hues: two cinnamon mink bicolors, a cinnamon mink classic tabby, and a cinnamon classic tabby mitted. The beauty of these kittens was truly remarkable, prompting us to keep two females from this litter to further develop our cinnamon lines.
Subsequent breedings with other queens have further expanded our cinnamon program. A pairing between Max and Juniper Rose, a chocolate point, produced seven kittens in varying shades of chocolate sepia. Another litter, from Max and a lilac lynx point female, resulted in chocolate mitted classic tabby and chocolate lynx bicolor kittens. These litters demonstrate the exciting genetic possibilities within brown Ragdolls, and we are particularly enthusiastic about the potential for lilac tabby variations in the future.
It’s important to note that our cinnamon program currently features non-traditional Ragdoll colors such as mink, sepia, and solid. While these colors are registered Ragdolls, they are not eligible for championship competition in some cat associations. These non-traditional colors exhibit a wider range of eye colors, including blue, aqua, green, or gold, adding to their distinctive appeal. These colors represent the rich history of the Ragdoll breed, with dedicated breeders appreciating and preserving these beautiful variations since the breed’s inception.
We are thrilled with the progress of our brown Ragdoll breeding program and the delightful cinnamon kittens it has produced. The warm brown tones offer a beautiful and unique aesthetic within the Ragdoll breed, while maintaining the gentle temperament and loving nature that defines these wonderful cats.
