Keeping Cats Safe and Happy Outdoors with Cat Enclosures

For many cat owners, providing a safe outdoor space for their feline friends is a top priority. Cats enjoy the enrichment of the outdoors, but the dangers of traffic, predators, and getting lost are real concerns. Like many, we wanted to give our cat, Kiki, the freedom to experience the outside world without compromising her safety. Our journey led us to discover the perfect solution: Cat Enclosures.

Our previous cats had always navigated the outdoors independently with a cat door, but Kiki’s experience was different and quite alarming. After teaching her to use the cat door, she became lost for eight long days. Thankfully, she was found at a neighbor’s house, and her microchip ensured her safe return home. This stressful experience highlighted the need for a safer way for Kiki to enjoy the outdoors. We knew we needed a solution that offered freedom while ensuring her safety within our property.

Searching online for options, we came across Purrfect Fence and were immediately impressed. The positive reviews and informative videos suggested it could be the answer we were looking for. The cost seemed reasonable, and with our DIY experience, my husband and I felt confident in tackling the installation ourselves. The instructional videos provided by Purrfect Fence were incredibly helpful, making the post installation straightforward. Hanging the mesh took some getting used to initially, but it became easier as we progressed. Corners presented the biggest challenge, requiring extra attention to achieve a neat finish, but ultimately, they worked out perfectly.

The quality of the materials and the component-based design of the fence truly impressed us. Its resilience was tested just two months after installation when an ice storm brought down large tree limbs onto a back corner of the fence, where it joined our wooden fence. (See photos). Upon clearing the debris, we were relieved to find only a single damaged arm and a minor tear in the mesh. Replacing the bent arm was simple, and we were able to re-hang the mesh seamlessly without needing a patch!

So far, both Kiki and our other cat, Lucifer, remain securely within the enclosure. Lucifer, however, has different outdoor habits. He prefers to roam independently at night. To accommodate him, we installed gates within the cat enclosure system. These gates allow us to prop them open at night for Lucifer, while using an interior door to separate our house, ensuring Kiki remains safe inside while Lucifer enjoys his nighttime explorations.

Our experience with the cat enclosure has been overwhelmingly positive. We are confident that it provides the perfect balance of outdoor access and safety for Kiki, giving us peace of mind as long as we remain mindful of securing the doors and gates. For anyone seeking a reliable and effective way to keep their cats safe while allowing them to enjoy the outdoors, we highly recommend considering cat enclosures.
