The Cat Box is conveniently located at 3015 46th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33714. This dedicated space promises to be a haven for cats and kittens awaiting their forever homes.

To mark this joyous occasion, the very first cat adoption of the day will receive a special gift basket filled with goodies for the lucky adopter and their new feline companion. Furthermore, every adoption throughout the grand opening day will include a special gift for your newly adopted cat, while supplies last. In lieu of traditional adoption fees on this special day, The Cat Box will gratefully accept monetary donations, allowing you to name your own adoption fee for your chosen cat or kitten. Rest assured, all pets at The Cat Box are spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and have received all age-appropriate vaccinations, ensuring they are healthy and ready to join your family.

Step inside The Cat Box and discover a thoughtfully designed environment created with the well-being of cats in mind. This completely renovated and custom-outfitted space provides diverse living arrangements to cater to the unique personalities of each cat. You’ll find free-roaming rooms perfect for social and cat-friendly felines, traditional kenneled rooms for individual comfort, specialized single and bonded rooms for specific needs, and playful kitten rooms brimming with youthful energy. Crucially, The Cat Box is entirely separate from the dog adoption area, ensuring a peaceful and stress-free atmosphere for our feline residents as they await their purrfect match. Dog adoptions will continue at the existing shelter location at 2911 47th Ave. N, St. Petersburg FL.

The unveiling of The Cat Box represents the first phase of the ambitious Schwartz Family Adoption Campus project at Friends of Strays. Looking ahead, renovations are slated to commence on the Milkey Bone Dog House, situated adjacent to The Cat Box, in 2025. Upon completion of both adoption buildings, the current shelter building at 2911 47th Ave. N will be repurposed to focus on essential medical services, intake procedures, foster program support, and the TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return) program, further expanding Friends of Strays’ vital community services.

“This remarkable new space is a direct result of 45 years of unwavering dedication from our staff, volunteers, and fosters, all working tirelessly to save the lives of cats and dogs in need,” stated Dara Eckart, CEO of Friends of Strays. “It is also a testament to the incredible generosity of our community, whose support has transformed this vision of expansion into a tangible reality.”

This transformative project carries a total cost of $6 million, and Friends of Strays has already successfully raised nearly $4 million towards this goal. Numerous opportunities remain for you to get involved and become an integral part of this exciting expansion.
