Hello fellow educators and lifelong learners! I’m Vicki Davis, a dedicated classroom teacher, proud mom, and the creator behind the Cool Cat Teacher Blog and host of the 10 Minute Teacher Podcast. Welcome to my corner of the internet!
My journey in education began in 2002, and it’s been an incredible ride. I’ve been honored with top education influencer awards and featured in USA Today, achievements I’m incredibly proud of. Yet, the recognition that truly resonates with me is being named STAR Teacher at my school and district – a testament to my commitment within my own community.
Over the years, the Cool Cat Teacher Blog has flourished into a dynamic community, boasting over 6000 insightful posts. I also host the 10 Minute Teacher podcast, a top-ranked educational podcast. Each blog post and podcast episode is a new exploration in our shared journey through education and technology. Beyond the blog and podcast, I’ve also authored books for educators.
You might be curious about the “Cool Cat” moniker. Well, the story, according to my feline companion Cheeto (a cat with very strong opinions), is that she was the inspiration. Of course, she conveniently overlooks the fact that she wasn’t even around when the blog started in 2005! 🐱
When the school bell rings, you’ll find me immersed in my 22nd year of teaching. My roles are diverse – I’m an IT Director, a Computer Science and Digital Technology teacher, and I even guide my students in exciting digital film projects. My classroom is more than just a physical space; it’s a vibrant and engaging learning community that extends beyond the school walls as we connect and share with the wider world.
My supportive home team includes my husband, our three unique children (two of whom navigate learning differently – and in my book, every child learns uniquely, not with “disabilities”), two playful dogs, and, of course, Cheeto!
The diverse educational paths of my own children fuel my passion to inspire every learner, celebrating their individuality. This is what I aim to do here – spotlight Cool Classrooms, explore innovative Cool Apps and Technology, and share practical Cool Teaching Tips.
Beyond the classroom and blog, I love to connect with educators globally. I’ve had the privilege of leading over 100 workshops, keynotes, and spotlight sessions around the world, often bringing my students along for the experience! My travels have taken me from the cold landscapes of Moscow to the bustling streets of Beijing, the sunny shores of Dubai, and the vibrant city of Mumbai.
Recently, my focus has been on the crucial topic of using AI wisely in education. I advocate for AI as a powerful tool to empower students for their future, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong ethical principles in its application.
