Creating the Chickens quilt was such a joyful experience a few years ago, and ever since, the vision of a similar quilt featuring Kitty Cats has been playing in my mind. This new Kitty Cats Quilt pattern shares a layout reminiscent of the Chickens design, but trust me, these adorable kitties come together much more quickly!

Choosing fabrics for this quilt was a delightful challenge. With such generously sized blocks, the possibilities for showcasing cute fabrics are endless! Honestly, any fabric collection would look absolutely charming transformed into these kitty blocks.
And can we talk about this backing fabric? Covered in cats, it was an absolute must-have! I found it here. Despite my overflowing collection of backing fabrics, it was simply too perfect to resist.
For the majority of the fabrics in this kitty cat quilt, I turned to the utterly charming Birdsong fabric line by Gingiber. The colors are wonderfully cheerful, and the variety in print scales is ideal for quilt making. (Does anyone else meticulously consider fabric scale when planning a quilt?). The background fabric I selected is Essex Linen in Flax, providing a lovely neutral backdrop.

The process of arranging the blocks always seems to take me longer than the actual sewing! I spend quite a bit of time laying them out, stepping back to observe, and then rearranging them endlessly until the color distribution feels just right. Taking quick snapshots of each layout iteration is incredibly helpful. It allows me to remember my favorite arrangements and truly visualize how the colors are balanced throughout the kitty cat quilt top.

Kaitlyn worked her quilting magic on this project, and the result is absolutely delightful. I envisioned a “ball of yarn” quilting design, and she nailed it perfectly. It adds such a playful and whimsical touch to this kitty cat themed quilt.

My own cat, however, is only interested in me when treats are involved! I attempted to bribe him into a photo op, but he was having none of it. Apparently, he considers himself far too sophisticated for my silly quilting pictures.
