Meet Momo Cat: The Feline Hero of Google’s Magic Cat Academy Halloween Doodle

This Halloween, prepare to be spellbound by Momo, the adorable black cat who stars in Google’s captivating Doodle game, Magic Cat Academy. Get ready to wave your wand – or rather, your finger – and dive into a ghostly adventure where you’ll help Momo save her magical school from mischievous spirits. Press play and embark on a quest to swipe spells, rescue Momo’s friends, and restore peace to the Magic Cat Academy.

Inspired by a real-life black cat named Momo, owned by Google Doodler Juliana Chen, this year’s Halloween Doodle transforms Momo into a freshman feline wizard on a vital mission. Last year’s Candy Cup Doodle featured the Yellow Witch and her black cat, and this year, Momo steps into the spotlight as the central hero. Your task is to assist Momo in casting out troublesome ghosts by swiftly swiping the symbols that appear above their heads. But be quick! The ghost who pilfered the master spellbook is making a getaway, and Momo needs your help to catch them!

The journey to bring Momo Cat and the Magic Cat Academy to life began with a different, soup-centric concept. Initially, the team envisioned a magic cat creating a soup so delicious it could raise the dead. However, connecting soup to Halloween proved too tenuous. This led to the inspired pivot to a wizard school, opening up a richer world brimming with engaging characters and enchanting themes, all centered around our feline protagonist, Momo Cat.

The Magic Cat Academy game unfolds across five enchanting levels, each set within a different part of the school: the library, the cafeteria, the classroom, the gymnasium, and finally, the rooftop. The development team brainstormed a variety of whimsical foes for each level, including a chef ghost, a venn diagram ghost, and even a big whistle ghost capable of summoning other spectral spirits. These creative antagonists add layers of fun and challenge to Momo’s quest.

For the Doodle team, creating an entire game was an exhilarating experience. They explored numerous elaborate spell symbols, even considering spells that would conjure a witch’s hat atop Momo’s head when drawn. Ultimately, for a fast-paced, timed game, simplicity reigned supreme. Ambitious ideas like the “Eiffel Tower spell” and humorous gag spells were set aside in favor of gameplay fluidity. Despite these necessary cuts, the team cherished the imaginative process of exploring countless possibilities for Momo Cat’s magical world.

That concludes our peek into the making of this year’s Halloween Doodle starring Momo Cat. We hope every human, creature, and ghost enjoys a wonderfully magical Halloween, guided by the paw-some spirit of Momo and the Magic Cat Academy!
