It all started with a simple thought, comparing Genie, Sarah, and Yolay to the three kings from the Bible, in a Dog Man context of course. Then, it hit me – Lil Petey holds a special place within the fandom, almost like a second cat Jesus! This whimsical idea sparked a funny comparison to the nativity play, and the pieces just fell into place. It’s almost uncanny how well each character fits!
Here’s the Dog Man Nativity cast that emerged from this playful thought experiment:
- Lil Petey: Jesus (of course!)
- Petey: Mary
- Dog Man: Joseph
- Sarah, Yolay, and Genie: The Three Kings (or Queens in this case!). Sarah bringing incense, Yolay with gold, and Genie offering myrrh.
- Molly: The Star of Bethlehem, guiding the way.
- Flippy: The Archangel, heralding the good news.
- Crunky and Bub: The bullock and donkey, the humble stable animals.
- Zuzu: The lamb, gentle and innocent.
- Chief and Big Jim: The shepherds, the first to hear the news.
- Some of Flippy’s kids: Angels and lambs, completing the heavenly host.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if we knew Lil Petey’s exact “birth” date? We could celebrate a second Christmas dedicated to our favorite feline! While brainstorming this, Christmas carols were definitely on repeat, especially “Mary, Did You Know?” It’s only a matter of time before someone creates a parody: “Petey, Did You Know?”
But why this comparison of Lil Petey to Jesus? Here are a couple of striking similarities:
- Both were conceived in a rather extraordinary way, not in the conventional sense.
- Both have profoundly changed the lives of many.
- And undeniably, both are truly wonderful beings in their respective worlds.
It’s funny to think this whole revelation happened while doodling on the absolute worst paper imaginable! And can you believe it? This is actually my first-ever piece of Dog Man fan art!
~Petey did you know~ ~that your baby boy…~ indeed!
