Creating the Cup

Let’s start by crocheting the cup of your boba cat. Use pink yarn for this section.

R1: Begin with a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. (6)
R2: [Inc] repeat 6 times. (12)
R3: [Sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (18)
R4: [Sc, inc, sc] repeat 6 times. (24)
R5: [Sc 3, inc] repeat 6 times. (30)
R6: (BLO) Sc in each stitch around. (30) Working in back loops only creates a nice ridge.
R7-9: Sc in each stitch around. (30)
R10: [Sc 9, inc] repeat 3 times. (33)
R11-14: Sc in each stitch around. (33)

Optional: For a sturdier base, cut a circle of cardboard slightly smaller than the base of your cup and insert it now.

R15: [Sc 10, inc] repeat 3 times. (36)
R16-19: Sc in each stitch around. (36)
R20: (Work in FLO) Hdc in each stitch around. (36) Finish with a slip stitch to the first hdc.

Fasten off, leaving a tail for weaving in. Stuff the cup firmly. Fold the last round of half double crochet stitches outwards to create the rim of the cup.

Making the Cat Head

Now, switch to white yarn to crochet the adorable cat head that will peek out of the boba cup.

R1: Start with a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. (6)
R2: [Inc] repeat 6 times. (12)
R3: [Sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (18)
R4: [Sc, inc, sc] repeat 6 times. (24)
R5: Sc in each stitch around. (24)
R6: [Sc 3, inc] repeat 6 times. (30)
R7-8: Sc in each stitch around. (30)
R9: [Sc 2, inc, sc 2] repeat 6 times. (36)
R10: Sc in each stitch around. (36)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Insert 6 mm safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9, spacing them 5 stitches apart. You can embroider the mouth and whiskers now, or wait until after assembly for more precise placement.

Crocheting the Ears (Make 2)

Use white yarn to create two cute ears for your boba cat.

R1: Begin with a magic ring and work 5 sc into it. (5)
R2: [Inc, sc, inc, sc, inc] (8)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Making the Straw

Switch to blue yarn to crochet the straw.

R1: Start with a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. (6)
R2: (BLO) Sc in each stitch around. (6)
R3-6: Sc in each stitch around. (6)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. For a bendable straw, insert a small piece of pipe cleaner. Alternatively, you can lightly stuff the straw with fiberfill.

Assembling Your Boba Cat

Now for the fun part – putting all the pieces together to create your boba cat amigurumi!

  1. Attach the Cat Head to the Cup: Using the long yarn tail from the cat head, sew it to the back loops only round (R20) of the cup using a whip stitch. Begin stuffing the cat head and continue to stuff firmly as you sew it to the cup. Ensure both the cat head and cup are well-stuffed for a plump look.
  2. Attach the Ears: Sew the ears to the top of the cat head, between rounds 3 and 6, on either side.
  3. Embroider Facial Features: Embroider a small inverted ‘v’ shape for the mouth. Add whiskers, positioning them one stitch away from the eyes on each side.
  4. Attach the Straw: Sew the straw to the top of the cat head, slightly behind and between the ears.
  5. Add Boba Pearls: Cut approximately 10-12 small, round pieces of brown or black felt for the boba pearls. Glue these felt circles randomly onto the pink cup using adhesive glue.

Your adorable boba cat amigurumi is complete! Enjoy your handmade creation.
