The first 30 days of a Persian kitten’s life are a period of incredible transformation, filled with tiny milestones and heartwarming moments. As a Persian cat breeder, witnessing this journey is a deeply rewarding experience. Join me as I recount the first month in the life of one very special kitten, a testament to the joys of breeding these beautiful felines and perhaps an insight for those seeking a Kitten Persian Cat For Sale.
Week 1: Newborn Days – The Miracle of Life
Day 1 (June 4, 2005): “It’s a Boy!”
newborn persian kitten
The miracle of birth! At approximately 4 a.m., a black and white Persian kitten graced us with his arrival. A singleton male, weighing a mere 3.0 oz, he was a tiny bundle of promise. His mother, a first-time mom, seemed instinctively smitten, tending to him with gentle care. He appeared to be nursing well right from the start, a crucial first step. This little one sported an adorable black dot right on his nose and a few more on his belly – unique markings that added to his charm. From the very beginning, his round head, large eyes, and promising “break” (the indentation between the eyes, characteristic of Persians) hinted at the stunning Persian cat he was destined to become. In a sentimental moment, I couldn’t help but see echoes of his grandfather, a beloved cat I had lost too soon. This kitten felt like a special continuation of that cherished line. The thought of naming him Oarion Number 3 crossed my mind, a tribute to his lineage.
Day 2 (June 5, 2005): A Night of Survival
newborn persian kitten
Weighing in at 3.1 oz, the singleton male had successfully navigated his first night – a relief for any breeder. While observing, I felt the need to supplement his feeding twice on the first day, offering 3 cc’s of milk replacer each time, as I wasn’t entirely convinced he was nursing as vigorously as a newborn should. He took to the bottle eagerly, a testament to his survival instincts. As a precaution, I also administered a tiny dose of Zithromax, just 0.01 cc, to prevent any potential lung issues arising from birth fluids. If only that little black dot on his face were white! It does look a bit like a smudge of ink.
Day 3 (June 6, 2005): Gaining Ground
3 day old Persian Kitten
Up to 3.4 oz! This little Persian fellow is thriving. He’s oblivious to my breeder’s paparazzi routine of whisking him away for quick photoshoots. Thankfully, he’s still small and the photo sessions are brief as he’s already starting to wiggle around. It’s reassuring to see he’s been nursing independently since those initial booster feeds on day one. He’s not just holding his own; he’s gaining weight, a clear sign of health and vitality. Mom is proving to be an exceptional mother, attentive and nurturing, clearly in love with her baby. A happy mom makes for a happy kitten, and ultimately, a happy breeder.
Day 4 (June 7, 2005): Oh, the Cuteness!
4 day old Persian kitten
3.7 oz and exponentially cuter each day! His resemblance to his grandfather and mother is becoming more pronounced, filling my heart with joy. A breeder’s dream is to see those cherished family traits carrying forward. A whimsical thought enters my mind – blue eyes. While his father is a solid blue Persian, the genetics might not align, but a breeder can dream, can’t they? To have a blue-eyed Oarion descendant would be truly special.
Day 5 (June 8, 2005): Squirmy Stage Begins
5 day old Persian kitten
Reaching 4.4 oz, this little Persian is growing visibly and becoming much more mobile in his kitten bed. Mom remains diligently by his side for most of the day, and nursing is going well. However, I’m finding him in increasingly curious spots within his bed – tucked away in corners, sometimes behind his mother. I gently guide him back to her, ensuring he has easy access to her warmth and milk. I find myself captivated by his day 4 picture, admiring his developing features. Mornings now include extra kitten kisses as I check on him while doing my rounds.
Day 6 (June 9, 2005): Name Contemplations
6 day old Persian kitten
4.7 oz – consistently growing and progressing perfectly. His lineage is undeniable – he is Crown Kiss’s grandson, carrying the legacy of Purrinlot’s breeding program. He’s shaping up to be a robust, outcrossed male, promising a thick, luxurious coat. His eyes already appear to be well-sized, and I’m hopeful they will develop into the large, round “bug eyes” that are a hallmark of our lines, inherited from his mom, grandparents, and great-granddad. His father, GC Gianni, should contribute to a strong, well-built body – I’m envisioning a substantial, impressive Persian. The quest for the perfect name continues…
Day 7 (June 10, 2005): A Week Old Milestone
week old Persian kitten
5.1 oz – what a week of growth! I’m heading out for the Southern Regional Award Dinner and will miss documenting his weekend progress in real-time. By one week, Persian kittens ideally double their birth weight. He’s slightly under this benchmark, but nursing well, which is the most crucial indicator. I eagerly anticipate returning home to see how much he’s changed in just a couple of days.
Week 2: Eyes Opening & Discovering the World
Day 10 (June 13, 2005): Eyes Peeking Open!
10 day old persian kitten
6.1 oz and a world of difference! Returning after two days, I’m struck by how much he’s developed. Sometimes, stepping away and returning allows a breeder to truly appreciate the subtle but significant progress in a kitten’s development. His eyes are beginning to open, revealing glimpses of the world. His legs are sturdy, like little tree trunks, and his body is compact and cobby – exactly what we look for in a Persian. I’m even warming up to that little black spot on his face; it’s part of his unique charm. The name Oarianni is becoming more and more fitting. A blend of his grandfather Oarion and father Gianni, it sounds just right – Or-ree-on-ee. It means “Son of Light – Zealous: God is Gracious – Sanctified,” a name as special as he is.
Day 11 (June 14, 2005): Pure Cutie
newborn persian kitten
6.4 oz of pure adorableness. I had thought about reducing my show schedule after my last regional success, but this kitten is stirring something within me. Breeding and showing Persians is a passion, and this little boy reignites that spark. To use a male in a breeding program, showing is essential. And honestly, the bond formed through showing is irreplaceable. Let’s see how he develops. If he continues to flourish, we might be heading back to the show rings. If not, he will be a cherished male, a tribute to Oarion’s memory.
Day 12 (June 15, 2005): Growing Fast!
newborn persian kitten
6.7 oz and visibly bigger each day. This little Persian fellow is undeniably spoiled, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! The joy of raising a Persian kitten is in these precious early weeks.
Day 13 (June 16, 2005): Sweetness Overload
newborn persian kitten
7.1 oz. Baby kitty is having a sleepy day today, but still eating well and growing at a wonderful pace. Sleep is just as important as nutrition for healthy growth in these early stages.
Day 14 (June 17, 2005): Head Control Emerging
7.5 oz. A significant milestone – kitten is learning to hold his head up! These are the incremental steps that are so exciting to witness.
Week 3: Developing Personality & Features
Day 15 (June 18, 2005): Almost Standing!
newborn persian kitten
7.7 oz. Weight gain has slowed slightly in the last 24 hours, but he’s still gaining and thriving. He’s even attempting to stand, a sign of increasing strength and coordination. I see so much of Oarion in him, though I’m still observing his head development, particularly the dome. Today, I noticed a slight dome bump right in the center of his forehead – a promising sign.
Day 16 (June 20, 2005): Growth Spurt!
newborn persian kitten
8.6 oz – a significant jump in weight! Kitten is really taking off in growth. The picture frame behind him in the photo provides a visual cue to just how much bigger he’s getting. He appears to have comically tiny ears – a desirable trait in Persian kittens at this age. The daily changes may seem subtle, but comparing day 1 to day 16 reveals a remarkable transformation. This Persian newborn is truly captivating, making the breeder’s life exciting and fulfilling.
Day 17 (June 21, 2005): Spoiled Rotten
newborn persian kitten
9.1 oz. I confess, I think I’ve held him more today than he’s nursed from mom! He’s becoming quite the cuddle bug. If it weren’t for the white fur inside his ears, they’d seem almost non-existent! And I haven’t even trimmed those adorable ear tufts yet. Oarianni is undoubtedly on track to be the most spoiled Persian kitten ever. Oops… maybe he already is!
Day 18 (June 22, 2005): Head Admiration
newborn persian kitten
9.4 oz. I am just loving this boy’s head development! The Persian head is so distinctive, and to see it forming so beautifully is incredibly rewarding. I changed his bedding today, giving Oarianni a fresh, new bed. Mom was initially hesitant but eventually settled in. It’s amazing how much he’s grown in such a short time.
Day 19 (June 23, 2005): Breathtaking to Adore
newborn persian kitten
10.0 oz – reaching double digits! It’s been a busy day, and even the baby seems a bit tired. He is perfectly on track with his weight, gaining approximately half an ounce daily, which is typical for Persian kittens.
Day 20 (June 24, 2005): Still Grounded
newborn persian kitten
10.5 oz. Baby is starting to attempt to stand but still slides back down – those little legs are still developing strength. He’s getting a little fussy during photo time now. He is sleeping a lot, as Persian kittens do for the first few weeks, waking primarily for feeding.
Day 21 (June 25, 2005): Ear Tufts Trim Time!
newborn persian kitten
10.7 oz. He’s mastered head control, albeit a bit shaky. I’ve been closely examining his head shape. It’s remarkably broad, already resembling an adult Persian head, with a lovely rounded dome and a smooth contour. It’s almost as if he has a grown-up’s head on a kitten body! His “break” is also becoming more defined, moving upward and inward, becoming more pronounced – he’s really embodying the Persian breed standard.
Week 4: Awakening Senses & Mobility
Day 22 (June 26, 2005): Freshly Groomed
newborn persian kitten
11.3 oz. Grooming day! I trimmed around his eyes and ears. I captured this photo with his eyes closed to highlight their alignment. The straight line across his eyelids, perfectly in line with his break, is exactly what we aim for in show Persians, indicating beautifully round eyes. He has a tiny nose, but with nicely open nostrils – no breathing concerns here!
Day 23 (June 27, 2005): Eye Contact!
persian kitten
11.7 oz. Oh my gosh! Today was a breakthrough. Kitten looked directly at me and held my gaze, reacting to my voice. It was the very first time he truly saw and recognized me. Our bond has officially begun!
Day 24 (June 29, 2005): Getting Used to Me
persian kitten
12.3 oz. I think he’s finally getting used to my presence and handling. Today, Oarianni stood quite well on his front legs, and he’s become a master of scooting backward! As I type this, he’s contentedly nestled in my lap – pure sweetness.
Day 25 (June 30, 2005): Watching and Learning
persian kitten
12.7 oz. I’m now closely observing his eyes, hoping to see them develop into those large, round orbs Persians are known for. As I gently rubbed his face, he licked my finger – kitten kisses! As Persian breeders, we strive for those large, round, expressive eyes – what we affectionately call “bug eyes”!
Day 26 (July 1, 2005): Quite the Cutie!
persian kitten
13.1 oz. He’s definitely watching his surroundings now. He followed me with his eyes as I vacuumed and moved around the room. He stood several times today, though his back legs still tend to give way a bit. He’s almost walking forward! His mother is showing interest in playing with him, but he’s still a bit awestruck by her playful energy. She has been an exceptional mother from day one – a truly invaluable trait in Persian cats, as not all females are naturally maternal.
Day 27 (July 2, 2005): Sitting Up Solo
persian kitten
13.2 oz. Weight gain slowed slightly, but his alertness has skyrocketed. This baby has been watching my every move today, even offering a meow or two in my direction. Communication is beginning!
Day 28 (July 3, 2005): Walking and Exploring
persian kitten
13.6 oz. He’s walking! I’m surprised he hasn’t yet figured out how to climb out of his bed. My husband jokes that Oarianni is even more spoiled than our GC Purrinlot Hercules. Even my grown children used to be a bit jealous of my bond with Hercules!
Day 29 (July 4, 2005): Escape Artist!
persian kitten
14.2 oz. Speaking of climbing out of bed – he did it! He tumbled out the first time, a little accidental adventure. But after placing him back, he was out again in moments – a quick learner! I’m also noticing his eyes are indeed starting to look wonderfully large and round, just as I hoped – he’s truly inheriting the best Persian traits from his lineage.
Day 30 (July 5, 2005): One Month Milestone – My Boy!
persian kitten
15.1 oz. Today marks one month for this Persian kitten. He’s a substantial boy and everything I had envisioned. I’m even considering some fall shows for him in October and November. While I hoped he’d reach a full pound by now, he’s just slightly under, but thriving in every other way. He’s not just standing and walking today – he’s running to and from the camera!
Beyond 30 Days
sweet cat
At two months old, now named Purrinlot Main Attraction, his copper eye color is intensifying beautifully. He is truly a stunning Persian.
Beautiful Kitten
These photos, taken at 10 weeks, showcase his captivating beauty.
Purrinlot Main Attraction – My Love!
Sadly, this beautiful story has a heartbreaking turn. Despite his initial promise and exquisite looks, Oarianni faced a health battle with PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease). It was a painful reminder that health is paramount, even above the most perfect physical traits. Losing him was a profound heartbreak, but his memory continues to inspire our breeding program, emphasizing health and genetic soundness above all else. We are committed to breeding healthy and beautiful Persian kittens, and while Oarianni’s time with us was too short, his legacy lives on.
(Anna’s Tip: Always ensure your kitten has fresh water daily, preferably distilled or filtered, to support kidney health.)
While I still mourn for Oarianni, life and breeding continue. In a beautiful twist of fate, Purrinlot Ameris The Beautiful, a red tabby and white van Persian with blue eyes, arrived and embodies many of Oarianni’s charming personality traits, a testament to the enduring spirit of these magnificent felines.
Purrinlot Ameris The Beautiful – a different look, but the same endearing Persian spirit. She even announces her presence when entering a room, just like Oarianni did. The journey of a Persian breeder is filled with both immense joy and inevitable sorrow, but the love for these enchanting cats makes it all worthwhile. If you are captivated by the Persian breed and are looking for a loving companion, consider the joy a Persian kitten can bring into your life. And remember to seek out reputable breeders who prioritize health and well-being, ensuring your new family member has the best possible start in life.
